| Visible Changes,
Groundwork West London and Play England join forces to scoop both RHS
Gold and the BBC Peoples Choice awards at the this years RHS Hampton
Court Palace Flower Show. Working in close partnership with
Groundwork West London, Visible Changes has been key in helping
develop and create the award winning Groundwork Playscape project over
the past twelve months.
The project has featured at the External Works Event in Birmingham
and recently won both GOLD and the BBC peoples Award at the RHS
Hampton Court Flower Show. Groundwork and Visible Changes were
recently joined by Play England to help endorse and promote the
project and illustrate that play environments in the UK should be both
challenging, innovative and contain a degree of ‘reasonable’ risk.
The Playscape story began with a scribble on a beer mat and moved
swiftly on to some fairly challenging meetings, which sought to
confront ingrained perceptions of ‘play’. Adam White, Principal
Landscape Architect at Groundwork West London said:
“Without the support and practical construction knowledge of
Visible Changes the Groundwork Playscape project would have simply not
happened. It has been a pleasure to have worked on such an innovative
project with such a forward thinking contractor. During award
assessment the RHS judges commented on both the imaginative design
concept and the degree of high quality construction throughout the
space”
One important point to note is that Visible Changes along with
Groundwork are not dismissive of traditional play equipment such as
swings and slides; these are still hugely popular in children’s play.
However they do believe that children have the right to play in
exciting and challenging environments offering the freedom to use
their own imagination.
Over the next two months Visible Changes, Groundwork West London
and Play England will be working together to bring the Groundwork
Playscape project to the RHS Tatton Park Flower Show and the IOG
Saltex Windsor Race Course Show (tbc).
